Akashiya JR Kagoshimachuo Station あかしや じぇいあーるかごしまちゅうおうえきてん
Long-established shop specializes in karukan, a Kagoshima specialty
This karukan shop was established in 1854. Karukan is a simple, moist, mildly sweet confectionary with the distinctive flavor and smoothness of Japanese yam. Karukan manju buns with red bean paste inside and many other seasonal Japanese sweets are also available. Sister shops are Akashiya Honten (in Kinsei-cho), Akashiya Yamakataya, and Akashiya Chuo (in front of Kagoshima Central Post Office).
